1) Can you explain why PMI doesn't consider this course Category 2 self-directed learning?
By most definitions, our CD course is "self-directed learning," but the PMI Category 2 - SDL (self-directed learning) actually means "unstructured learning," such as reading a book, conducting interviews, etc. This category is limited to 15 PDUs per recertification period. In fact it is one of the ways we recommend that PMPs complete their 60 PDUs after taking our CD course. The criteria for Category 3 training, which is unrestricted in terms of the number of PDUs you can earn, is very specific. Our course has to stand the PMI's scrutiny of formally structured learning. Every three years, we must submit our course to the PMI for their evaluation. In this, we have to meet strict requirements relative to the learning structure and content of our course. We have always passed with flying colors.
The course is Category 3 training and you will earn 45 PDUs once you have satisfactorily completed the course. We have been awarding PDUs for this course for over five years and hundreds of people have taken advantage of one of the best courses in project management technologies on the market, for a price that is from half to a third the cost of conventional training. There is no better buy!
2) How long do I have to complete the courses once I purchase them?
As long as you need - we have no limit. Some have taken over a year to complete the course; some have done it in a week.
3) What type of testing is done to verify course completion?
There is NO test. However, there is an extensive problem set that accompanies the course materials for each course. At least half of the hours will be spent in problem solving. Once you get through the introductory chapters, you will be assigned problems to work in each section. These are done in another set of workbooks offline, and there are answers to each problem in the workbooks. There is also a narrative on the CD that goes through the introduction and then the solution to each problem. So everything is, in effect, self-graded and self-tested - YOU work the problems until YOU are satisfied that YOU have gotten out of the problems what YOU want to get out of them and then YOU move on to the next section, and so on until you complete the course.
Then, follow our simple process for getting your PDUs. (For full instructions on getting your PDUs from the Project Management Institute, click here) Once we receive this information, we will prepare a PMP Activity Report form for you filled out for the course, and e-mail it back to you within three business days.
4) How can I be sure that PMT is actually a Registered Education Provider for the PMI?
Our course is registered through the PMI as Category 3 training (not Category 2) and PMT is a Registered Education Provider. Our provider number is 1097, and the course designator is PMT013. You can verify this on the PMI website (www.pmi.org) or if it is more convenient, call the PMI office in Norman, Oklahoma. They administer the PDU program for the PMI. Call 877-350-3716 or 405-325-6925 to verify this information.
5) What are the requirements to qualify for the group discount?
Once you purchase one of our courses, you and your associates are eligible for the group discount on future purchases. At your request, you will receive any subsequent purchases of the “The Project Planning and Program Control Processes” course with a $50 discount off of the regular posted price (this is NOT in addition to any sale price). If you order 10 or more courses at once and have them shipped to the same address, you will receive $100 off the the regular price for each of these courses.
6) 25 or 45 hours of training – how can I afford to take this much time away from work?
The scientific processes of project planning and program control are extensive – they cannot be learned by reading an article, or spending one day in class, or something that can be grasped intuitively. Condensing the necessary material into only 25-45 hours was a tremendous challenge for PMT . There is an extensive body of knowledge required to understand and master in order to properly plan and manage projects, and without these tools projects are left with only reactive methodology. But PMT recognizes the hardship that five days of training imposes on many project management professionals. This is why the course has been put on CD-ROM , so that very busy and critical personnel can take the course in small segments, when they can squeeze it into their busy schedules. You work our courses on YOUR schedule NOT OURS, making our training the most time efficient training on the market today.
7) What hardware and software do I need in order to take a CD-ROM course ?
The CD-Rom course is only compatible with PCs (not yet available on the Mac). Need: Windows 98 or newer, a Pentium II processor or better, at least 128 MB of RAM, at least 100 MB of available disk space, 800 x 600 16-bit (thousands of colors) color display or better, 20 speed CD-ROM Drive (3600 KB/sec sustained transfer rate) with latest drivers

10) Why should I select PMT for my training and consulting needs over its competitors?
PMT has specialized in the scientific processes of work definition, time analysis, schedule reconciliation, resource planning, and risk management. In these areas of expertise, PMT has no equal in industry today. Check out the outlines of any course on the market, and if these things are addressed at all, they will be covered in one or two hours. This is simply not enough depth to impart a working level knowledge of these fundamental processes that are so critical to proactive planning and management. Our courses have a genesis that goes back 30 years in this industry, and has evolved constantly over that time. They embody best practices and lessons learned from all of these many years of practical experience – that is, not just theory, but what works in the real world.
11) As an executive, why should I expend my valuable time learning the details of project and resource planning?
Executives play significant roles in the effective and efficient management of projects, even though they have delegated the day-to-day management to subordinates. Their primary responsibilities lie in making sure that each project has a thorough understanding of their objectives, are properly structured and disciplined in their management, have a good plan for success, and are properly and adequately staffed and equipped with the necessary resources to meet all of their objectives. Can an executive determine if the resource planning provided them by the project is thorough and accurate, or if they have a plan for success? They cannot answer these questions without a detailed understanding of how thorough and accurate time and resource planning is accomplished.
12) Does this project management training really apply to IT professionals?
Yes, many IT professionals have already benefited from PMT's training, as have IRS managers, construction managers, and aerospace engineers. The scientific processes of project planning and program control are fundamental, and apply to any and all project management environments. Most IT endeavor constitutes projects, be it software development or hardware and software implementation, and as such PMT's methodology is very appropriate . Therefore the discipline, the tools, and the proactive methodology will significantly improve the performance of IT projects as well.
13) Who benefits from PMT's training programs?
Anyone who is, or will be, involved with managing any portion of a project will benefit from PMT's training .
